After spending a year in Tempe, it's finally time to start looking for a new adventure! For the past month or so, I have been working hard to update my portfolio, resume, and meganblack.net. Even though I have job searched before it always surprises me how much work actually goes into preparing and searching for new job opportunities. I was once told that job searching is a full time job in itself and I must say they are absolutely right. Lucky for me though, I am absolutely excited about it!
Over a year ago, a lot of my motivation to move to Tempe from Seattle was to experience new things, people, and adventures. As someone who lived in Seattle her whole life, packing up my car and driving 1200 miles south to Arizona was quite honestly, terrifying. However, after taking on a position at Arizona State Universiy that was highly out of my comfort zone and way more responsibility than I've ever had I've realized that sometimes the most terrifying things can be the most rewarding.
As with many things in life, experiences that are initially tremendously rewarding can become less so with time and personal growth. Arizona has been a great ride for the time I've been here but I'm now ready to move onto other things. This is especially relevant with my current postition as ASU. I am a leader at heart, however I am also an artist. I want to have a postion where I can express that now more than ever.
So with that, here's to my time in Arizona and for great things to come. Cheers.
-MBI have been working hard to get this site up and running. My main challenge has been trying to work out all the kinks and make it browser compatible. It looks great in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and now I just have IE to tackle. Why, oh why, does IE have to be so different from the other browsers? It used be the ground-breaking browser, and now I think it's the worst of the worst. What happened to working toward unilateral web standards? Oh well...
Another part of the site that I need to finish up is the all-important work section. I have the Lightbox working, and have been collecting my work all over the semester. Now, I just have to add it all. I have lots of work, but I am only going to put the things I am most proud of on here. At the Evegreen where I work, a lot of clients have very specific request for their ads, so I make it the best I can and then send it on. Does it come out of my creativity? No, not really. It might look good, but I want to showcase what I'm capable of on here.
I am very excited for new projects on the horizon. After I created the Dance for Haiti ad, I had many people approach me for new work. Talk about networking and portfolio-building! I am about to finish up an ad for a program called "Are You Smarter Than A Professor?" and I'm quite thrilled about how it's coming. I was also commissioned for another all campus program, which will be my next project. Once these are done, I'll make sure to post them here.
Spring Break is approaching and with that will come some hard-core job searching. I want to have this site up and amazing by then so I can show potential employers my work. Wish me luck!
